Preetipls is a Singaporean comedian and activist, well known for speaking up about issues such as racism and body positivity. In 2019, Preetipls and her brother, rapper Subhas Nair, were given a conditional warning for a rap video they created which was deemed offensive by the local authorities. The rap video questioned the use of “brownface” in an E-Pay advertisement. This controversy started difficult conversations surrounding the issue of racial discrimination in Singapore. Preetipls speaks with VICE World News about the reasons behind her controversial rap video, her activism work and the challenges in speaking up about racism in Singapore.
