Out of all the songs in folklore, I relate to this one the most. I changed some lines in my cover to make it more relatable to me because I don't own a car and I'm not a drinker (unless iced tea and refreshers from Dunkin Donuts and Wawa count.). One modified line is an allusion to Nick Wolfhard's Cameo where I got tough love from him while another is a reference to Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. I've always have an attachment to yellow flowers, specifically dandelions. I don't think they're the type of flowers I'm holding in this cover, but a few I found at work that were blooming reminded me of them. Dandelions are often perceived as weeds and on some days, it's how I feel about myself. I still feel like an annoyance in most social situations, hence why "it's hard to be at a party when you feel like an open wound," hit hard. It doesn't happen as much as it used to because the virtual chats I've attended made me more confident, but some that don't go as planned causes that insecurity to resurface. I actually didn't find out until tonight that during a Twitch stream in 2018, Nick told his brother, Finn, to apologize for a joke he made about a finger painting looking like a special needs kid that was sneezing. Finn realized his error and owned up to it. I'm not going to lie and say the joke was a little stigmatizing, but I'm not going to be mad at him for it because he was just a kid and he has an older brother looking out for him. It blew my mind that Nick revealed that he is on the autism spectrum and that was probably why he sympathized with my struggle when I booked him. Every time I see them together, it kindles joy.
