The helicopter routes on the east side of the Potomac River near Reagan National have been shut down indefinitely. Below 🔽🔽 is STATter911 video of the Army Black Hawk traversing Route 1 to Route 4 (the two routes shut) about 90 seconds before the mid-air collision. This is the helicopter's final flight along these long-standing routes. These routes hug the Potomac near some of Washington's famous landmarks. STATter911 cameras that monitor traffic along I-395 picked up the U.S. Army helicopter passing the Washington Monument and over the Tidal Basin at approximately 8:46 p.m. on Wednesday. The helicopter continued past the Jefferson Memorial and 14th Street Bridge complex. With the U.S. Capitol in the background, the helicopter traveled above the Southwest Waterfront and Washington Channel and eventually out of frame. Radar shows it then crossed Haines Point, taking it south over the Potomac. Seconds later the tragic mid-air collision occurred.
