Mid shot of Belmondo and dog STORYLINE: French actor Jean-Paul Belmondo was hospitalised in Corsica on Wednesday after being stricken with what medical personnel described as a "cerebral accident". A rescue service spokesman on the French Mediterranean island said the 68-year-old film star was vacationing on Corsica when he fell ill. France 3 television reported that the right side of his face was paralysed, indicating that he may have had a stroke. The spokesman said Belmondo was transported from a medical clinic in Calvi and then transported by helicopter to a medical centre in Bastia. Belmondo has been one of France's leading box office attractions for 40 years, in films ranging from avant-garde classics to popular action-packed thrillers. He has worked with nearly every major French director - from Jean-Luc Godard in "Breathless" in which he starred with Jean Seberg, to Francois Truffaut's "Mississippi Mermaid" with Catherine Deneuve.
