Hi everyone. Here's the Top 10 Dog Beaches in MI (that we've found so far!) Here's a list of all the dog friendly beaches in MI we've been too: Lake Huron Beaches: 4-Mile Tawas Bay Tawas Point Kiwanis Beach Port Sanilac Public Beach Lake Michigan Beaches: Bridge View Park Saugatuck Dunes Warren Dunes Lake Superior Beaches: Tahq Bay Grand Marais Public Bayshore Park Whitefish Point Whitefish Bay Other Lakes & Rivers: Algonac Dodge #4 Portage Lake Dumont Lake Tahq River Ruedisale Park Whitefish Bay didn't make our list because it wasn't public. We rented an airbnb beachfront house. However, the whole Bay is shallow and made a great swimming area. Are there any Beaches we should've included on our list? We only had room for 10, honestly almost any of these Beaches could've been on this list. They're all great beaches. And the 19 beaches that we've been to doesn't even scratch the surface. Michigan has many many more bodies of water for the dogs to swim in. We could spend every summer, for the rest of our lives, in MI looking for different places to swim and we still wouldn't find them all. There's over 15,000 bodies of water in the state! After Alaska, MI is the state made up of the most water. Almost half the area we call MI is water. Tahquamenon Bay is where the Tahquamenon River flows into Whitefish Bay of Lake Superior. Warm water flows into a shallow bay, making these waters some of the warmest we found in Lake Superior. Tawas Bay is a shallow Bay of Lake Huron. Some parts of this Bay were very warm, and some parts were still cold. But when we were there the waves were big mightve accounted for the colder water. Waves can pick up water farther below the surface and make the surface water colder. Bayshore Park is a Bay of Lake Superior. Since bays are shallower the water is warmer. Swimming in the bays is preferable. The open waters of Lake Superior were noticeably colder. Like, for example, the public beach at Whitefish Point that was not on a Bay was COLD. Same for the public beach at Grand Marais. The beach at Algonac State Park is on the St. Clair River. The entire shoreline in the State Park on the river is dog friendly. Tawas Point State Park has a dog friendly section of beach. There's a dog beach at the state park, but dogs aren't allowed on the human beach. 4-mile Scenic Turnout & Beach is on Lake Huron. It's a beautiful area with a gorgeous overlook. Saugatuck Dunes State Park is on Lake Michigan. You have to be able to walk a .7mile trail to get there and walk up a sand dune to get out. It wasn't that steep, but it wasn't easy. We weren't at Dodge #4 State Park very long, but we probably will be back. One of the largest inland lakes in southeast MI, Cass Lake has a dog friendly section of shoreline and a human only beach. Portage Lake is one of the clearest lakes we've seen, outside of the Great Lakes. It was a beautiful crystal clear inland lake. DuMont Lake was nice. We seen DuMont Lake from a private campground. The campground had a dog friendly beach. Since the beach we used wasn't public, we did not include DuMont Lake on our Top 10 list. I don't know of there are any other dog friendly beaches on DuMont Lake, the campground Beach is obviously only for people staying at the campground. DuMont Lake is another glacially carved lake in the Great Lakes Region. Had it been bigger, it could've been another Great Lake. Warren Dunes State Park has a beach on Lake Michigan. There is a dog friendly and a non dog friendly section of shoreline. The beach here is great. A short easy walk from the parking lot. To make our list of top 10, we tried to include beaches that are sandy or mostly sand. #dogfriendly #Beach #michigan Formerly good dog, bad dog we are now Rescue Dog Fam.
