"Artificial Intelligence Applications in the Water Sector: Towards Sustainable and Smart Management" The General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC SG), in cooperation with the Gulf Water Science and Technology Association (WSTA) and the Arabian Gulf University (AGU), organized on February 17, 2025, a webinar on "Artificial Intelligence Applications in the Water Sector with special focus on the arid GCC countries. The GCC region is categorized as one of the driest countries in the world and faces unique water challenges. Sustainable management of water resources is one of the most important strategic challenges facing the GCC countries. The GCC countries suffer from a significant scarcity of natural water resources, while at the same time witnessing rapid population growth and economic development, which increases the demand for water at accelerating rates and increases the costs of water production and supply. With the developments currently witnessed by the world, emerging technologies, especially artificial intelligence with enormous potential, come to provide innovative solutions for managing water resources efficiently and effectively. This symposium represented an opportunity to learn about the latest developments in the use of artificial intelligence technologies in the water sector and the most important benefits resulting from this, the gains and progress achieved in the region, and to explore the opportunities available for its application in the water sector in the GCC countries, and to address the most important determinants that hinder the adoption of these technologies in the water sector and what is required to overcome and overcome them, in addition to contributing to raising awareness of the importance of artificial intelligence in addressing water challenges.
