Bihar CM Nitish Kumar’s decision to amend prison rules to pave the way for the release of gangster Anand Mohan Singh has triggered a political backlash. The Bihar govt has tweaked Bihar Police Jail Manuals, 2012, to set free ex-MP Anand Mohan Singh and 26 others. Anand Mohan Singh, convicted in the murder of then-Gopalganj DM G Krishnaiah in 1994, was sentenced to death by a lower court in Bihar. However, the strongman’s sentence was reduced to life sentence by the Patna High Court, which was later upheld by the Supreme Court.
