Canada's largest national park is at risk of losing it's status as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Wood Buffalo National Park is downstream of major hydro development on the Peace River and development in the Alberta oilsands along the Athabasca River. The pace and scale of development feeding the Peace-Athabasca Delta has let to diminished water quantity and quality, dramatically impacting the lives of local Indigenous populations that historically relied on the land for sustenance. The Narwhal recently traveled to Wood Buffalo National Park to learn more about the threats to the park and increasing international pressure for Canada to address them.
