I spent my first 20 summers on Öland on the Swedish East Coast. During walks with my grandfather – looking up to him - I asked myself the question: “What does it take to be a role model?” During my 35 years of experience, I have seen the vast impact we have on environmental and social issues – sustainability. What we need is leadership for sustainability and I will present 5 principles you can follow to become a great leader for sustainability: • Principle 1 is Leadership engagement and communication • Principle 2 is Sustainability strategy as an integral part of the business strategy • Principle 3 is Integration into business processes and value chain approach • Principle 4 is Lean operations • ... and finally, Principle 5 is the business case So, what does it take to be a role model? As a leader of an organization – be it small, be it a multinational corporation – or as a leader of yourself as an individual - you have the power to create change and drive sustainable innovations This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
