A playthrough of the unplayable character Frost in the PS2 version of Midway’s/Netherrealm’s Mortal Kombat Deception. Ah, Frost. So much potential. Thrown to the wayside like so many characters in this sub-series. Before being (sort-of) canonically returned later on, but as always, I’ll cross that bridge when I reach it. I have this distinct memory of Frost basically being the poster-child for Deadly Alliance, so the fact that she got killed off in the very same game she was introduced in was a bit baffling to me. This time around, like Kitana she’s one of the characters who’s had the least work put into her. Her styles return, but her daggers have actually been replaced with sais, and her animation is really choppy too, often erratically ending like it was made in a gamemaker-engine. Her moveset is insanely scarce too; she barely has any combos at her disposal, and all in all she feels extremely basic. God, what a jilted character. Also, she looks…strangely tall. Maybe this is like The Bigger Luke Theory, where two Frosts exist simultaneously, but one is slightly taller than the other. Frost is really pretty awful here, if I’m being blunt. Her combos are extremely limited, her moves lack punch and she seems really lacking in speed too, making for quite an uphill struggle when you’re playing as her. She feels extremely incomplete, which you’d probably expect considering she doesn’t even have a character icon, but goddamn is she not a lot of fun to play as here. Another character where you really haven’t missed out much by not playing as her. Up next, another character who doesn’t fair too much better.
