From Fatigue to Stage 4 Colon Cancer in Months: Trevor Maxwell’s Story | The Patient Story

In early 2018, Trevor Maxwell started feeling extremely fatigued and tired. He initially attributed it to normal midlife tiredness however, the fatigue continued to worsen to the point where simply walking up stairs would leave his heart pounding. At age 40, he hadn't had a checkup in years, but finally went to see his doctor. Bloodwork then showed he was very anemic and he went on to get a colonoscopy. Doctors then found a large 4-inch mass in his colon and was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer. He opens up about how diagnosis sent him into a spiral of anxiety and depression and how he felt like a burden to his family and two young daughters. Looking for support, he found purpose in creating a community for men with cancer. Trevor launched Man Up to Cancer to address male isolation in cancer and provide a space for men to open up and bond through shared experiences.
