Knowing about our DNA is very important because it helps us understand why we may have certain genetic abnormalities or diseases. And if we can understand the cause of these abnormalities or diseases, then we are in a better position to diagnose and treat them. In order to get as much information as we can from our DNA, we do something called gene sequencing. Gene sequencing allows us to identify every gene in a human body. It can also find mutations in our genes. It used to take a long time and a lot of money to sequence an entire person's genome. Now, we can sequence a genome in as little as 40 hours - that's a little less than 2 days! This means we can provide better, more tailored care quickly to patients all over the world.
