Found an old 110V site transformer at the scrap yard or a boot sale? Before plugging it in, you MUST test it to ensure it’s safe and working correctly. These units convert standard 240V mains power into safe 110V Center-Tapped to Earth power, a vital safety feature on job sites. 🛑 EXTREME SAFETY WARNING! You are working with 240V mains electricity. You MUST ensure the transformer is unplugged before opening the case or touching any internal components. ALWAYS perform tests with the unit standing on a non-conductive surface. In this video, we guide you through the 3 essential checks for an old site transformer: External Safety Check: Inspecting the case, cables, and sockets for damage. Internal Component Test: How to safely check the Thermal Cut-Out (the most common failure point) and the internal fuses using a multimeter for continuity (with the unit unplugged!). Voltage Output Test: Safely plug in the unit and check the 240V input and the 110V output at the socket. We also show you the critical test for the Center-Tap safety feature: checking that the voltage from each pin to the earth pin is approximately 55V. A quick repair can save you hundreds on a new transformer and keep your site tools running safely! #110VTransformer #SiteTransformer #ElectricalSafety #TransformerRepair #DIYElectrician #ScrapYardFind #ThermalTrip #CenterTap #MultimeterTest #240V #DIYTech
