Handcrafted in Istanbul — real shoemaking inside a working workshop. This fourth video in the series focuses on sole preparation and bottom construction before attaching the outsole. The process begins by cleaning the inside surface of a polyurethane (PU) sole using a special solvent. This cleaning step removes paint residue, oils, and production contaminants left during the sole manufacturing process. Removing these contaminants is critical because adhesive bonds much better to a properly cleaned surface. Next, the lasted upper is prepared for bottom construction. The bottom margin of the upper is folded inward around the last. The process starts from the heel area, where a traditional shoemaking tool is used to press and fold the leather inward. Since the forepart already contains temporary nails, the rest of the folding is completed using a hammer. This folding step helps the upper wrap tightly around the last and prepares the structure for outsole attachment. Although not shown in the video, the shoes are then placed in a heating oven to activate the adhesives. After heating, the shoe is inserted into the outsole to check the correct bonding area. This step allows the shoemaker to determine exactly where adhesive should be applied. Next, the temporary nails are removed from the bottom. Any excess leather is carefully trimmed by hand with a knife. The bottom surface then undergoes sanding and wire brushing on a machine, creating a rough surface that improves adhesive bonding. After surface preparation: • Adhesive is applied to the prepared shoe bottom • Adhesive is also applied to the polyurethane sole This prepares both surfaces for the final sole bonding stage. 📩 WhatsApp: +90 534 981 97 84 📸 Instagram: @artisanshoemakertr Subscribe to follow the full shoemaking series and see how professional shoes are built step-by-step inside the workshop.
