Asian Pear Pie Filling is my new favorite pie or crumble to make! It's got the texture of apples but the sweetness of pears. What a delicious combination. Pie Filling Ingredients: 1 stock pot filled with Asian pears Juice from 1 lemon 1/4 cup of butter 2.5 cups of packed brown sugar 4-6 Tbsp. of pre-mixed apple pie seasoning 1/2 to 1 tsp of cardamom (optional) 4 Tbsp. of Minute tapioca Directions: 1. Peel, cord and slice Asian pears. Add them to your stock pot 2. Add butter, brown sugar, spices. Mix and start cooking it down. 3. Let it cook for approximately 1 hour, mixing it often so it doesn't burn to the bottom of your pot. 4. Once cooked down to your desired texture add your tapioca 1 or 2 tablespoons at a time and let it cook in between. Add more as needed. Once it cools it thickens a lot more. 5. Now you are ready to use your pie filling as you'd like. Jar it/can it, bake it into a pie...just some suggestions. 6. Remember to taste your pie filling as you are cooking it to see if you need to add more spices to it. Crumble Topping Ingredients: 1 cup of rolled oat 1 cup packed brown sugar 1 cup flour 1 tsp salt 1/2 tsp baking soda 1/2 tsp baking powder 1/2 cup cold butter Direction: 1. Pre-heat oven to 350℉ 2. Mix all ingredients except for the butter. 4. Cut the cold butter into cubes and add to the dry ingredients. 5. Mix just until crumbly. Remove from your mixer and crumble with your hands so you don't over mix it. 6. Put some of the crumble in the bottom of an oven safe dish, lightly pat down. 7. Add your pie filling. 8. Sprinkle more crumble on top of the pie filling leaving it loose with little chunks. 9. Bake for 30-45 minutes until golden brown. 10. Remove from the oven, let it cool and enjoy with whipped cream, ice cream or both.
