The moment I step off the Odakyu Line at Machida Station, my journey begins abruptly. I have no plan, no map. All I have is the smell of the crisp late autumn breeze and a quiet curiosity to see the ridgeline that stretches east of the city. This time, I walked around Kogasaka in Machida City, Tokyo. Stepping into an alleyway, I encounter the breath of everyday life?something not found in tourist guides?and a silence that seems cut off from the hustle and bustle of the city. I climb a steep slope and catch my breath. The coolness of the asphalt under my feet and the slanting sunlight speak to the undulating nature of the land. I suddenly stop in front of Kogasaka Kumano Shrine. Rebuilt by local residents after its destruction in the Great Kanto Earthquake, the shrine stands there, imbued with an extraordinary sense of purpose. There are certainly hidden moments along this journey that will make you want to touch the silence and quietly pray through the screen. Going further into the area, you will come across places of worship with deep roots in the local community, such as Kumasa Inari Daimyojin and Kotohira Shrine. These are not simply landscapes, but the very ""memory of the land"" that has continued to protect this place over the ages.
