Consequently, some words may differ slightly from those heard in the recording, especially in the musical sections, where variations occur among the partbooks. The Chinese subtitles are my own translation, modeled after the linguistic style of the first systematic Chinese translation of the 1662 Book of Common Prayer (published in 1872 as《教會禱文》) by Bishop Samuel Isaac Joseph Schereschewsky (施約瑟), which served as the foundation for all subsequent Chinese editions of the BCP. My translation also takes reference from the 1899/1910 editions of the Book of Common Prayer used in the Anglican Diocese of North China, which were revisions of Bishop Schereschewsky’s work rendered in a more literal correspondence to the 1662 English text. The Epistle and Gospel readings follow Bishop Schereschewsky’s later Mandarin Bible translation.
