Ep7 Working On New Foundation Piers - The Helmstead

After taking the summer off, we're back to begin rebuilding the cabin at the new cabin site by the fishing pond. Although we have already dug and poured the concrete footings for all four corners, I want to add five more footings to the foundation - a row of three across the middle of the cabin floor and two more positioned in the middle of the front and back sill beams. This will increase the structural integrity of the entire cabin and provide a much better foundation than what the cabin originally rested on. So, in this episode, I finish digging the 5 additional concrete footings and begin building up the front row of footings by adding cinder blocks on top of the footings and mortaring them together and filling them with concrete to eventually form a 9 pier foundation. Once the front row of concrete block piers is done, I begin carefully lifting and maneuvering the large front sill beam into place and gently rolling it over onto the front piers with a cant hook to make sure it's level and positioned correctly based on the design we discussed in Episode 4.
