Easter flight 2023 at Åstebyhöjden, Sweden

I had some sparetime on Easter sunday and the weather forecast showed possible good flying conditions just north of my home in Överbyn, Värmland (central Sweden). So, I packed the snow shoes and the glider and went out for an Easter adventure! The 1 km long trail from Hovfjället to Åstebyhöjden (also known as Pekkehalla) was covered by snow, up to 1 m deep. Well at the Take-Off site, it was a magical view down to the town of Vitsand and lake Övre Brocken. Another pilot from Åre (Fredrik) who had followed me from the parking lot, started first and went off for an xc flight. While I checked my equipment and prepared for take-off, the wind declined to almost zero and in one of the last windgusts (2-3 msec) I lifted. There is a gentle slope down from the Take-Off to the church in Vitsand, so I could fly pretty low without the risk of a tree landing. I finally landed just outside the garden of my employee and she was so kind to drive me back to my car. What a great day!
