Elvis live August 3, 1969 at the International Hotel, Las Vegas Nevada (Sunday Opening Night Full Concert) Returning to the stage for the first time in eight years, the 1969 Las Vegas run saw Elvis Presley perform 57 sold-out shows and the live debut of ''Suspicious Minds''. During this residency he was backed by two vocal groups, The Imperials and The Sweet Inspirations, a full Bobby Morris Orchestra and a band later known as the TCB band. The King was back from his exile, anxious to prove himself worthy of the title. Behind him were some of the most brillant musicians in the country and rock field, all hand-picked. With a band like this, who could fail: lead guitar by James Burton, rhythm guitar by John Wilkinson, fender bass by Jerry Scheff, drums by Ronnie Tutte Piano: Larry Muhoberac. For vocal support: The Sweet Inspirations with Millie Kirkham and The Imperials Quartet. Harmony voice: Charlie Hodge, and of course The Bobby Morris Orchestra. The King himself had never looked better. Thin as a rake, and dressed in a two-piece karate outfit, he put on a dynamic show, consisting of a mixture of some of his old classics, contemporary songs, and a couple of new tunes. With a few exceptions, these numbers would make up the standard repertoire of the Presley-Show in the future, and consequently be released and re-re-re-released by the RCA-people. So, the importance of this recordings, and what sets it aside from the bulk of live-recordings, lies not so much in the material as in the way it is delivered: This is Presley paying serious attention to the music! You will find no trace of the sloppy singing (Elvis even knows the lyrics to ''Hound Dog'' and ''Jailhouse Rock''!), the rushed band-arrangements, and the atrocious over-orchestration that would mar so many of Presley's future live-recordings. Obviously he enjoys what he's doing. In the beginning nervous, but gradually loosenine up, gaining confidence in himself, as he feels his grip on the audience. It's a way-out performance and should be viewed accordingly, as a whole. We'd like to point out that the performance on this recording is not from July 31 st 1969 but, we suspect, from August 3, 1969. The July 31st show was for the media and celebrity quests only. The real fans got to see the Tiger Man making his triumphant return from August 3, 1969 onwards. Name (Or.
