Dave Bartlett joins us today to talk about Bartlett's new and improved Sweet Corn! Bartlett's Farm Grown Sweet Corn is going ORGANIC! After a small 1 acre test plot in 2022, he decided it was finally time to make the jump and do 30 acres of organically grown sweet corn. Dave gets into the growing process from seed to harvest, how methods have changed over the years for the difficult island climate of Nantucket, and what the transition process from conventional to organic is like for farmers in the state of Massachusetts. Much of the land that is growing corn is still in the organic transition process in-line with the USDA and Massachusetts Dept. of Agricultural Resources, so it is not officially Certified Organic, yet. It will be a couple more years before the entire crop is certified organic but in the meantime it is still grown with organic methods.
