Former UFC Fighter Crushes Boxing Debut, Immediately Calls Out Jake Paul

The UFC pays a much smaller percentage of its revenue to its fighters compared to other major sports leagues. Fighters often cross over to the sport of boxing after their MMA careers for the potential of a bigger paycheck. Tyson Pedro, a retired UFC light heavyweight who recently made the switch, won his boxing debut against Taimoor Khan via knockout. Khan, the Pakistani prospect with 15 wins and 13 knockouts was billed as a tall task for the UFC veteran, but Pedro was able to dispatch him in the seventh round. Leading up to this fight, Khan was reported by virtually every media outlet as an undefeated fighter at 15-0, despite his knockout defeat by Paris Olympian Davit Chaloyan at IBA Champions Night in October. In an emotional post-fight interview with Stan Sport, Pedro recalls, “Everyone said I was crazy for leaving the UFC, so now to do it, I'm so proud of myself. I went through hell to get here.” The Australian fighter may have been referring to the difficulty of securing a boxing match. Pedro announced he would transition to boxing shortly after retiring from the UFC last year, but his debut was postponed three times due to opponents canceling. As for his next fight, Pedro may have a big payday fight in mind and suggested, “I wouldn’t mind getting Jake Paul back for the Tyson’s,” referencing the social media boxer’s recent exhibition match with the aging boxing icon “Iron” Mike Tyson. If he can secure a fight with Jake Paul, Pedro might be able to get a bigger bag than all of his UFC paychecks combined.
