Prime Minister Edi Rama’s government has came under fire over corruption allegations involving Balluku. Last week, during a government reshuffle, Rama dismissed Balluku from her positions as deputy prime minister and minister. Balluku remains a deputy and has immunity from prosecution, which can only be lifted in a parliamentary vote. Lawmakers voted with 82 votes against and 47 in favor of the request by the Special Anti-Corruption Prosecution for her immunity be lifted. As the vote took place hundreds of protesters gathered in front of parliament calling on the government to resign.
