A powerful 5.9 magnitude earthquake has struck Hunza, Gilgit-Baltistan, causing severe damage in Chapursan Valley. Several houses and properties have been damaged in Shimterk, Reshit, and Zoodkhun villages. The Sost–Chapursan road has been blocked at multiple locations due to landslides, disrupting access for rescue and relief teams. Two students from Zoodkhun village were injured in the earthquake and urgently require CT scans, but medical facilities are facing serious challenges. The only ambulance at Karman Hospital is currently busy, creating difficulties in emergency response. Internet services are down in Shimterk and Zoodkhun, badly affecting communication and relief coordination. Locals are demanding immediate restoration of the SCO network and installation of booster towers. With temperatures dropping to minus 20 degrees Celsius, many affected families are spending nights under the open sky, waiting for help. Rescue 1122 teams, along with heavy machinery, are actively engaged in road clearance and recovery efforts.
