Howdy Happy Campers, JT here and it’s another fine day out here in SW Oklahoma. As always, I just want to pass on HOW TO either protect or enhance your Toyota Rav4 Prime. This one is to protect. Plenty of videos out there on how to change your oil so this might be boring for some of you DIYers, but there are a few tips here you might find interesting. So I’m going to show you just how easy, how efficient and how less messy it can be done and because of course…I like it easy, peasy. Yes, I know and Before you say it, I know, the Maintenance schedule says It is “Recommended to change the oil every 10,000 miles. And you can research, ask 10 different mechanics, check 20 million youtube videos, but if you really want to keep that Rav4 Prime or any vehicle for that matter as long as possible, then change it every 5,000 miles or every 6 months. You don’t have to believe me, but I’ll put a link down below and you can hear it from AMD a Certified Toyota Master Mechanic. Anyways. I use OEM Toyota oil, as that’s what Toyota has used to test these vehicles. 5 quarts is $36 total. Yeah you can save $10 bucks getting a gallon or so of another brand. Nothing wrong with that. After all it is your vehicle. The 2nd reason for this video is I am planning to have mine reach at least 300,000 miles and so we shall see in the future. Since I drive around 20,000 miles a year, that equates to around 15 years down the road. You can use car jacks if you want, Car Ramps like me, or not. The ground clearance for ME…is enough for me to just get under the Rav4 Prime and get to the cover, bolts, oil filter and stuff. But I’ll also show you some tips you can use in case you don’t have any JACKS or Ramps. If you have never done an oil change before, Do it. Don’t try it!. But do it, Trying is just an excuse to fail. You either DO or you Don’t!!!!! A lot of reasons for doing it yourself. One--- save a lot of money by not having the dealership charge you an arm and a leg to do it. TWO---- making sure that the actual level is correct. (Last 20,000 miles Toyota Free oil change I took mine too, I checked and the fluid was way overfull). Three--- yes you can take it to one of these quickie 5 minute oil change shops (Don’t recommend it….who knows…what THEY really put in there) And last…The satisfaction of actually accomplishing something yourself and know that you did it right. Always keep in mind…No one will take care of your vehicle better than yourself. Since your time is valuable, here you can get to the part you want to see and skip the boring ones: 0:00 - Howdy Happy Campers 0:50 - Recommended maintenance oil change schedule info 3:53 - EZ-103RH Oil Drain Valve 5:40 - Before you get started, ramps, creeper, tools, etc 6:34 - Taking off the plastic cover from under the Prime to get to the engine oil 7:40 - Start of the oil draining 9:10 - Taking off the oil filter 9:58 - Prepping the Oil Filter 11:08 - Hand tighten oil filter and check for leaks 11:32 - Under the car without ramps or the Prime being Jacked UP. 13:15 - Don't try this at home boys and girls "Knucklehead in Action" 13:38 - Using any wood; shelf boards, 2 x 2, wood-chuck wood- chuck wood for elevation 14:03 - Home made ramps, nothing fancy, but it works 15:28 - Closing--- might do a vid at 30,000 to change the tranny oil and differential fluid Few Tips: Make sure you have your tools ready, don't want to drain then find out you can't take off your oil filter, or find out that you BOUGHT the wrong oil filter. Warm up the car engine before draining, but not too hot. Using this method, you can really tell exactly how much oil you took out of the engine, by draining it directly into an empty 1qt or gallon jug. Make sure to put a coat of oil on the NEW filter for a good seal. When you install the Drain Plug, no need to torque it down, just tighten enough where it does not leak. Naturally fill the engine with oil to the recommended capacity Use good oil, don't be cheap! Besides your house, this is the next best investment (well..not gonna get into stocks that shoots to the moon). Only Hand tighten the oil filter. Enough said. USE Car Jacks whenever you can. Safety First!!! (not using it here, just to show you the strength of the wooden ramps I made) Thank you for watching. Take care, Stay safe and God Bless.
