I was hired to repair this 4.6L V8 engine , it was leaking coolant from a blown Intake Manifold gasket. It's a 1 PIECE Manifold with the Throttle Body molded into the Manifold Upon removing the Manifold , there was 2 studs broken into the engine and only 1 came out easy. I was going to record a Repair video but didn't have time to record the entire process since this was a time sensitive job that needed some promptly . So I went to my local Advance Auto Parts Store to get a few things I used Auto Craft, Teq Pro, Gearwrench , Craftsman, Stanley ,,Proto tools on this entire job and I needed a Performance Tool to remove this broken stud The Performance Tool aka PT Stud Extractor product #W83203 cost me $20 It's meant to Remove Seized or broken studs & bolts that are 1/4 to 1/2 Inch in size The tools designed to work in small , right areas where studs maybe hard to reach and it has several good features You can use it on a 3/8" impact gun , low setting use a wrench, ratchet, impact tool or socket on the Hex shaped shaft It has sponge on the inside behind the 3 sets of teeth that adjust with the Hex head. Twisting it Right will loosen the teeth , enabling you to place it on the stud and turning it Left, enables the teeth to clamp down on the Stud I held an adjustable wrench in the Extractors body while using a 24mm socket to tighten the teeth onto the stud securely Then I simply used my socket & ratchet to turn the Stud Extractor Left and it did loosen the broken stud with ease I asked questions about this broken stud and it turns out that someone attempted to tighten the bolt with a Torque Wrench With 20 Ft. lbs of torque when it broken It made the problem worse and ended up in the BACKWOODS Hippie Garage Righty is Loosey and Lefty is Tighty with this Stud Extractor because you need the stud to come out by turning left Made from Chrome Vanadium Steel, it weights good, and built to service if neeeded, as you can remove the clip ring for serving The PT Stud Extractor does have a Lifetime Warranty according to the package.
