Morrowind 2025 - Combat AI Overhaul Mod Showcase

In vanilla Morrowind, combat can be quite the dull and repetitive experience, it's easily the worst part of Morrowind's gameplay, and much has been said about the game's dice roll mechanics. But while many mods have overhauled and improved those base mechanics when it comes to combat, few have ever touched upon one of the game's other core issues: the simplistic AI behavior of NPC opponents. In the vanilla game, NPCs will just charge straight at you, with no thought to strategy or sense of self preservation, they'll fight to their last hit point instead of surrendering or fleeing. But that's something today's Mod of the Day changes, for today we're taking a look at the revolutionary Mercy - Combat AI Overhaul by Max Yari, a mod that, while it doesn't change the base mechanics of combat, does change NPC combat behavior, giving NPCs a far greater range of responses to combat. Now they might give the player verbal warnings before attacking, they might flee, they might surrender and give up their weapons and loot, and they will plan their attacks a bit more carefully, moving around more, visibly preparing their next attack with additional voicelines to spice up the combat experience! This makes the game a much more exciting and interesting experience when it comes to combat, and no other mod for Morrowind has ever managed to achieve this level of dynamic NPC responses. It is a one-of-a-kind mod, and if you're on OpenMW, it's an absolute must-have, one I strongly recommend!
