Well what a surprise. During my entire 4 hour Boston layover I was watching the wind and rain change intensity constantly. I had high hopes for an awesome takeoff from the airport due to wet conditions in moderate precipitation (RA) and a totally full A321 headed to Dallas/ Ft. Worth. Upon recieving the performance sheet, we were unable to get takeoff numbers for runway 9 as we had been sent numbers regarding a flaps 2 takeoff. Just after pushback, our pilots communicated with dispatch to see if we could use runway 9 with a flaps 3 takeoff. The only other option was runway 15 which we would have to wait half an hour to get taxi clearance for. We finally got numbers for runway 9, however we had 300lbs of fuel to burn first. During the short taxi to the runway, we had the engines running at 40% N1 to burn off this fuel and they remained at that high idle for about a minute after we had lined up on the runway. I couldn't believe my eyes as we let go of the brakes on this 7,000 foot wet runway in a 190,000lb A321 as for the previous two hours, I was expecting a flex takeoff from runway 15.
