In this ASMR Plumbing video, I am showing how to get perfect joints when lagging copper pipes. If you have pride in your paperwork when installing pipework, then you have to have the same standards with the insulation that covers it. Getting perfect joints using a template cutter like this one will ensure that all your joints butt up to each other with no gaps as long as you get the distance is right. The tool makes it really easy to cut your 90° 45 and can even cut for long radius bands using a 22.5° side of the tool. For cutting the tee sections you start by marking the centres of the pipes and then you slide it inside the tool lining up with the V cross. I like to always try and make sure that the joint of the insulation is at the back. This also allows you to get the insulation on as the cut will be in the right place for the insulation to fit over. The section where the pipe goes into the tea you have to cut 245s and I like to use the inside the shape but in the opposite way to get that. The total also has markers on it so it’s easy to lineup with the cut line and or when you mark the centre of where the other section of lager needs to be. This makes it very easy to line up everything and once you get better at cutting all these angles using it all you will be more efficient and have less waste when you’re doing so. It also makes the job a little bit more pleasing and fun to do normally lagging is quite a tedious job. It’s easy to make it look bad so next time when you’re insulating copper pipes if you’ve done your work correctly and only and tidy then why not have the insulation to show through instead of all the cuts having gaps and just all tape together ?
