The Seattle Center Monorail is one of the last remnants of an original ALWEG design. In the mid 1950s the ALWEG organization was looking to revolutionize city transit using a unique type of design. Walt Disney brought the ALWEG design to his theme park in 1959 with the Disneyland-ALWEG Monorail System, the first daily operating monorail system in the western hemisphere. This brought much needed attention to the small ALWEG company who was then later asked to create a limited monorail line for the 1962 Seattle World's Fair. Decades later, this original monorail system remains in daily operation alongside its Fair co-attraction, the Seattle Space Needle.
