So I haven't explained NewGame% before, as it is not an official IL sub-category. But it predicates on speedrunning the stage as if you were running it on a file for the first time. What this means for Forgotten City Stage 2 is that you use the Flame Sweeper, and have 3 Super Bombs as ammo in your Sweeper to start. For time controls, you have 1 REC and 1 FF. It also means that timing is measured in Real Time, as opposed to using the In-Game Time. For this stage, you start by sweeping the car, cannon (LV2 trash), and one of the red barrels (LV1 trash) behind the starting gate. Run towards the slot target, and shoot the red barrel at it; you want it to land on Skulls, which drops Bombs, taking out the 2 Dust Herders. From there, run through, shooting the LV2 trash at the 2 Yellow Chronoblobs to take them out. Sweep the 2 bombs next to the 2nd Chrono, and then use 1 to shoot the bomb target, opening the nearby door. As you approach it, shoot the other towards the Keropper out in the distance. This shot is important and precise; the key is to hit the Keropper out there, WITHOUT also hitting the Spiker. After that, use your REC and use your 3 Super Bombs to take out the 1st Red Keropper (if it eats a Super Bomb, it will take 3 damage, taking it out), the last Dust Herder and 3 Pink Octoballoons, and the Gatekeeper once you trigger it. As the REC plays back, jump across the gap and shoot 2 Super Bombs after waiting a bit, targeting the 2nd Keropper and Spiker, and the last pink Octoballoon. After that, shoot your 3rd Super Bomb towards the pillar to the right of the last door, then use your FF. Double Jump with precise timing, and you will clear the door entirely with the Bomb Boost. In the last room, use 2 LV1 trash to target the Water Spirit to take it out, and use the 2 LV2 trash next to it to take out the other 2 Spikers, and then go to the goal to finish the level. If you have a 3rd party controller, you can get away with just using 1 REC, but it will make clearing the door much more precise; the Super Bomb specifically needs to land on the top of the barrels in such a case, and it may land between the 2 barrels. If it does that, you won't be able to clear the door, and it will cost you a bunch of time. That's why having an FF here is vital. You can clear the door with a precise Bomb Boost even if the Super Bomb lands between the 2 barrels. It's definitely faster with a 3rd party controller if it lands on top of the barrels, but if it doesn't, then the FF Bomb Boost gives a good backup plan; you just need to be more precise in such a case. If compared to the current full game record at the time of this post, this route saves about 50 seconds after factoring in the shop that would be used before entering this stage in the run. If one was to have concern about not getting any gold after completing this level due to sold trash, you can always consider bleeding about 10 seconds to open the Gold Chest just under the Goal gate (which will give you anywhere from 125 - 375 Gold), thus still saving about 40 seconds overall if executed on the first try. Just make sure you don't accidentally get the blue Cat Medal in that area if you do so!
