In this video, we go through the myofascial stretch of the external oblique, one of the most superficial of our abdominal muscles. There are two external obliques muscles, one on each side of our trunk. Their actions (when working unilaterally) are to: Rotate to the OPPOSITE side (contralateral rotation) Side bend to the SAME side (ipsilateral lateral flexion) From a myo-fascial point of view, we can further break down its actions more specifically to each bone/joint it affects as (nerd definition coming): Trunk: ipsilateral side bending, contralateral positive torsion (flexion + rotation to opposite side) Timestamp to go directly to the exercise: 01:23 Based on work by renowned doctor, osteopath and physiotherapist Dr Guy Voyer, Myo-fascial Stretching is the precise stretching of a muscle within its fascial chain.
