A rather productive Saturday down on the plot. Our neighbours have commented that when I get going, I really go for it and they always know when we've been which is nice. A shorter video from this weekends jobs, but the main focus was the weeds in the plot. As mentioned in previous video's we have some bindweed in a few of the beds, so it's important to dig that out when it's first seen to reduce the risk of it spreading further. It's also important to not snap it when removing it, but to dig it out as much as possible to reduce the risk of it coming back. As well as bind weed, there are roots in the beds that look like they belong to dandelions which are testing my patience too and are proving to be just as difficult as the bindweed. Keeping on top of the weeds is a forever job but important to ensure that nothing it damaging or taking all the nutrients from the crops which we hope will do well. But it's not all work with no play, I was also able to get the onion sets in their bed. We've been allowing the sets to take root and start shooting at home in the cloche before bringing them up to the plot. How we started them off is in another video if you'd like to see how we did this - 'The Hidden Plot - Potatoes and Onions'. While doing this, I could see the pigeons eagerly watching my every move, so not to lose the hard work we've been doing at home, I put a temporary cover over them to protect them from the rats with wings. Finally, I made a start on the plan for next weekend and hopefully my next video - prep in the poly tunnel, getting it and the tomatoes set up ready for their 'forever home' for the rest of the season. Why not grab a cuppa and a biscuit (my favourite are the ones with chocolate on) and watch our quick update? Take care and keep safe, Rach x
