Eating disorders (anorexia, bulimia, orthorexia, and so many more) NEED to be talked about more. During my anorexia recovery, I was surprised at the amount of questions I’d been asked around weight.. “ Does weight matter when it comes to eating disorders? “ or, “ I’m pretty underweight, tall, and don’t eat a lot.. Does that mean I have an eating disorder?” or “Can I be overweight and have an eating disorder?” With something like an eating disorder.. Does weight matter? Can you be overweight and have an eating disorder? If you’re underweight.. Does THAT mean you have an eating disorder?? In the end, an eating disorder is largely a mental / psychological condition and mindset - one that ends up resulting in, if left unchecked, a severely (potentially life-threatening) low weight. Basically.. the low weight is usually a result of the eating disorder. This means that, no matter what weight you’re at, you can still have an eating disorder. Why is this such an important topic? Because there are SO many people within a normal weight range or within a normal BMI range that still are developing an eating disorder. This is how it started for me, and how it developed so much - I was still within a normal / healthy weight range when my eating disorder behaviors developed. After that.. It was all down hill for me. IF we can catch it early enough - If we can become aware that people don’t have to just be underweight to have an eating disorder - we can help catch conditions like anorexia , bulimia , binge / binging and orthorexia early. We can help people started the healing and recovery process so much sooner. Have you guys ever run into this? Have you talked with others about how weight doesn’t really matter when it comes to eating disorders? Let me know below.. Would love to hear from each of you :) If you want to keep up with my day-to-day, check me out on Insta: instagram.com/cameronyoder And don’t forget to subscribe to keep up to date with MORE (hopefully) SICK VIDS: / @cameronyoder Thanks again SO so much for watching.
