Subsequent to playing “Best of Both Worlds”—the 4th track of “5150” studio album—during OU812 Tour held at Providence Civic Center, Rhode Island, on October 17th, 1988, Eddie Van Halen performed his guitar solo. Well, this time, I am not talking about Eddie’s guitar solo arrangement neither his guitar techniques. I am talking about its duration. It lasted more than 6 minutes. Why? No “Cathedral”—the 3rd track of “Diver Down” studio album—of course! Hence, it was the shorter guitar solo Eddie had ever done during OU812 Tour (though I am affraid it was due to editing). If you all notice, Eddie did not play “Cathedral” as part of his guitar solo arrangement until 5150 Tour. Though he did the early version thereof during Fair Warning Tour as seen in the video that was recorded at Mid-South Coliseum, Memphis, Tennessee, on November 1st, 1981 (if you have not watched it, please click • Ed interspersed ”Cathedral” early version ... ). During Diver Down Tour, Eddie always played “Cathedral” prior to playing “Secret”—the 4th track of “Diver Down”. However, during 1984 Tour, Eddie played “Cathedral” without “Secret”. Now, we are back to the main issue. Since 5150 Tour, the exclusion of “Cathedral” from Eddie’s guitar solo arrangement had never happened. Until 7 years later or during Balance Tour, Eddie would have performed his less-than-5-minutes-guitar-solo on which he did not play “Cathedral” too (if you have not watched it, please click • It turns out that Ed had once soloed witho... ).
