Impression of the build of an electric fixed pod motor in my sailing dinghy. Combined with footage of my first sail this year 2025 - it is so good to back on the water again. Why did I build an inboard motor in this ILUR sailing dinghy? First, I wanted the comfort of a motor around bridges, locks and busy waterways, especially because most of the time i sail singlehanded. Secondly, I wanted an quiet electric motor because I can't stand the noise of a conventional outboard. Thirdly: I dislike the sight of an outboard on a boat with such beautiful lines. Fourthly: despite a good bit of sympathy for the sail-and-oar community, my body is not fit for rowing and sculling long stretches with the wind head-on. And fifthly: because I wanted to learn something new. Hope this can inspire some others too, and if not, feel free to remain reliant on handpower yourself!
