This is my first video mod project, and it's dedicated to a very special car: my Lexus SC430. From the moment I bought it in April 2023, I felt a real connection. Since then, I've been working on a number of projects to enhance its performance, appearance, and bring it up to modern standards. I've always wanted a convertible, and the SC430 was the obvious choice. Known for its robust engineering, it's a car that was unfairly judged. Despite negative reviews, most notably from Top Gear, the SC430's sales weren't due to any inherent flaws—quite the opposite. That single review, however, unfortunately deterred many potential buyers right up until production ceased. The silver lining is that those who ignored the Top Gear verdict snagged an absolute bargain. Even today, these cars can be purchased for a fraction of their original £60k price tag. It's important to understand the SC430 isn't a sports car; it's a grand tourer. Lexus designed it as their first hardtop convertible, investing heavily in high-quality materials that, frankly, put many modern cars to shame. While it's easy to say it's great to drive, the best advice I can give anyone considering an SC430 is to simply experience it. The more you drive it, the more you appreciate its dual nature. With the top down, it's a uniquely reliable and steady cruiser, powered by a fantastic engine with plenty of power. With the top up, it transforms into a quiet, luxurious car perfect for long, relaxed journeys with minimal outside noise. In my opinion, it's a Japanese equivalent of a Bentley. Lexus did a tremendous job, but unfortunately, many missed the point of what they created. I was once told by someone from Lexus that they over-engineered this car, designing the engine to last over 400,000 miles and even considering its use in small aircraft. It's no wonder Lexus called it the 'Jewel of Lexus.' My SC430 is now approaching 25 years old, but it doesn't feel like an aging car on the verge of breaking down. In fact, I'd argue it's more reliable than many new cars on the market today. If you're looking for one of the last great V8 engines combined with a hardtop convertible at a reasonable price, look no further than the SC430. You won't regret embarking on a journey with this remarkable vehicle.
