Port of Burnie | Engineering Excellence Award for the Controlled Collapse of P6 Crane
In November 2019 TasPorts, in partnership with BridgePro Engineering, successfully completed the complex controlled collapse of the Port of Burnie’s iconic P6 crane. In September 2020, the companies were announced as a Tasmanian Winner of the Engineers Australia's Engineering Excellence Awards 2020 for this project. Unique and innovative engineering methodologies combatted seasonal winds and dynamic operational demands within the port to safely and successfully remove the crane. The removal of the 90 metre high crane paves the way for future growth plans at the Port of Burnie, as a critical gateway for local industries, commodity exporters and the wider community.
