On October 24-25, 2013 the Digital Public Library of America (DPLA) brought together librarians, archivists, and museum professionals, developers and technologists, publishers and authors, teachers and students, and many others to Boston, MA to celebrate the DPLA's successful April 2013 launch, its recent milestones, and its future at the first DPLAfest. DPLAfest 2013 — a two-day series of events free and open to the public — included a reception at the Boston Public Library on the evening of Thursday, October 24 and a full day of workshops, discussions, and other hands-on activities on Friday, October 25 at Northeastern University and Simmons College. This is a recording of remarks from the DPLAfest reception, which took place on Thursday, October 24, 2013. During these remarks, key project leaders from the planning initiative and operational DPLA celebrated the groundbreaking work of hundreds of librarians, innovators, and other dedicated volunteers in our collective effort to build the first national digital library. The DPLA was proud to co-host DPLAfest 2013 with the Boston Public Library, Northeastern University's College of Social Sciences and Humanities, and Simmons College Graduate School of Library and Information Science.
