Please note this video is for entertainment purposes only and should not be used for instructional use Hello and welcome to SOUTHEND AVIATION! What a way to finish up the year with a flight in Southend's resident G-HUKA! G-HUKA, a hughes 369E/Mcdonnell Douglas MD500E is one of 2 based at Southend Airport, the other being N369E (soon to be G-HUXX). I've gone up in 369E a few times this year, while that airframe is away for its annual it was nice to have a ride in her camouflage sister ship G-HUKA! For this flight we started up on the apron, hover taxied via Charlie and departed from Southend's RYW 23 and headed north leaving Southend's airspace. Fairly bumpy ride up with 17kts gusting 35kts, all part of the fun though! While up in the air we did a couple of Autorotations, a state of flight in helicopters which simulates an engine failure. The rotor blades rotate by the upward motion of air thus generating enough lift to land safely in the event of an engine out. Bare in mind these aren't considered full Autos as we didn't touch the ground, but you get the idea. Once we had done a few Autos we headed back into Southend's airspace and arrived on RWY 23. Total flight time was 36 minutes. Hope everyone enjoys!
