In his regular live Q&A sessions Michael answers questions and shares news about his work and all things classical. Why not join in via his Facebook page: www.facebook.com/profmichaelscott and send a question ... what will you #askprofmcscott? TOPICS COVERED THIS WEEK INCLUDE: ▪️ Could you suggest a few sources about the Titan Theia? I am open to everything. illustrations, texts, any other crosslinks and ideas. ▪️ Where did nectar and ambrosia come from? ▪️ What would the Greeks and Romans make of modern-day body builders? Muscle popping, fake tan etc. Would it be fitness goals or disgusting to them? ▪️ The fringing vessel shown – the Kylix – would that be used just for a symposium? Would they use a more recognisable style cup for everyday drinking? Also how did they get the wine from the huge kraters into the smaller vessels for pouring? Did they just dunk the smaller vessels into the largest ones, or did the ladle the wine out? ▪️ I loved the symposium episode of The Ancients, particularly for the accidental discovery of the spinning wine vessel and the role of fluid dynamics thanks to the hands-on approach to teaching. Are there any other examples of similar accidental discoveries? And do you see science and technology becoming part of the study of the ancient world?
