Nuclear power is a wonderful, dense and cheap source of reliable energy, but what about the waste? Wouldn't it be nice if we could get the energy without all the waste? UPDATE (2/2019): According to this article, the company featured in this video "Transatomic" has ceased operations. However, I agree with the article. In the world of Gen IV nuclear, some will succeed and some will fail. Progress is being made overall, but apparently not by this company anymore. While THEIR technology has not proven successful, the concept overall is still good. The article states that their main selling feature that UNREPROCESSED waste could be the fuel, will not work. However, the theory is sound. I expect the issue is the materials in the unreprocessed waste absorb too many neutrons for it to work. However, one needs only look at the reactor design from the '80s and 90's the IFR to see that running reactors on reprocessed waste does work.
