My FIRST car 🚗 I bought a TOFAŞ!!

The first time I got the idea to buy a car was actually when I realized that I depend on a car to be able to travel around Turkey. I did a lot of research, Because when someone asked me what kind of car my parents drive, I would just answer “it’s white”. And that resembles my knowledge about cars. But the one thing I know about cars in Turkey is that cars here are expensive. In fact Turkey is one of the most expensive countries when it comes to cars. Buying a car abroad and bringing it to Turkey - is expensive. Because of the tax system. There can be taxes up to 200% of a car’s value. Which is insane. So while I did my research for a reasonable car in Turkey I came across Tofas which is a local car manufacturer in Bursa. They are still producing cars, like the fiat brand but the original Tofas car hasn’t been produced since 20 years. Of course I am not just buying a car randomly, it’s a big investment. So I asked my friends what they think of me buying a Tofas. And all of them said “Allah allah, it won’t even drive you to Gebze.” “It will just be a headache” “Don’t do it. Just don’t” “Police will constantly stop you, it’s no good” And I was surprised. They all had the same idea about Tofas - a car that you can not trust because it’s old. A car with a bad reputation. But I didn’t just want to leave it like that, So I wanted to find out what this all was about. What is a Tofas? Why does it have such a bad reputation? And does it deserve to be called a troublemaker? So I was reading articles over articles, I watched videos, scrolled through eksi sözlük and days passed. I felt like I didn’t only become an online Tofas expert but I also fell in love. I was in love with the idea of changing people’s mind about Tofas, because Tofas is amazing. One thing I read was “if you drive a tofas you won’t get bullied, you are the bully”. But I also saw another side of Tofas, which I’m gonna tell you about later. From that day on I was actively looking for a Tofas to buy. My friends would still look at me and tell me to buy a “real” car. But to me it couldn’t get more real than a Tofas. This is is a real car. It has the real Turkish spirit that I was looking for and I don’t wanna buy a car just to get from A to B and then forget about it. I wanna buy a best friend, someone I can go on an adventure with, a car that I will always remember. And Tofas it is. Tofas is a feeling, a community. It’s love - tofask. People made memories driving a tofas and it still lives on. Can I explore Turkey with a Tofas? I am not sure about it, but I will try. What’s next? Well, due to the pandemic and corona morona, I couldn’t really travel much. But with Tofas this will change now and I will leave Istanbul to go on a big adventure around Turkey.
