Earthships TOUR: Off-Grid, Radically SUSTAINABLE HOMES for a Better World

Off-Grid Tiny Home 101 | Earthships for Sustainable Solutions ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Out on the desert mesa of Taos, New Mexico, Star-Wars-like shelters rise from the earth, half-buried in adobe, glistening with glass bottles and solar panels, whirling windmills and south-facing windows. We 1st saw a video about these "Earthships" a few years ago, and when we realized we were bound for the "Better World Earthship Community," where architect Mike Reynolds invented them (!), we decided we had to dig deeper. In the process, we ended up falling in love with the principles behind the Biotecture Movement, which is defined as architecture using organic materials, beginning from the standpoint that nature itself is the ideal architectural construct (Amen). And while these Earthships are brilliantly self-sufficient (no electrical grid, no water lines, no sewer), they’re absolutely stunning as well. After our extremely inspiring day of learning (which we are so happy we get to share with you in this video), we are actually pretty set on the idea of building one of these as our 1st tiny home... once we find the land.
