After driving up to Hobart to drop Richard off, Andrew and I drove back to the Wilderness of the south-west to see if we could find a location for a landscape image for sunset. Tasmania Workshops 2019 - http://andrewmarr.com.au/tasmania2019 We found on a map a few tracks that would give us access to the banks of the Lake Gordon, so we thought we'd try our luck. When we arrived, all we could see were thousands of dead trees in the water and up the banks of the Lake, due to damming the lake years ago. The clouds were looking good for a colourful sunset, thin and high, just ready to catch the warm setting sunlight. With limited time, I need to find a composition quickly, so I explored the banks for a simple composition. I generally find it easier to start with simple compositions to make sense of the chaos. First shot with a simple shot straight out from the edge of the water focused on the row of mountains in the distance with a line of trees in front, ISO 64, aperture of f8.0 and a shutter speed around 1/40 to 1/20. With the first shot in the bag, I could relax and see if I could find something of interest. Walking along I noticed an old tree trunk that had fallen which made a great leading line. The main focus of the image was the silhouette of trees in front of the sky that still had a touch of colour. ISO 64, aperture of f13 for a little more depth of field, remember the log was close to the camera and a shutter speed of 10 seconds. Interested in joining me on a workshop?
