As happens to so many people in this area, throughout their lives. And you're probably wondering, you know what's going to happen now? What am I supposed to do? And what am I looking at? And I'm here to tell you that getting the right guidance through a DUI is very important. There are so many collateral consequences that come along with a DUI. That members of the court either are unaware of or don't care about because it's not in their purview; mostly licensing issues. That unless you're well prepared going in you can suffer consequences that are completely were in your control, but are now completely out it and you didn't even know about them going into it. So you're probably wondering. What am I supposed to do now? Now that I have it. I've bailed out. What am I supposed to do? Okay, well as with a lot of criminal cases there's been a lot of activity and you've already done everything that you're supposed to do. Not everything, but pretty close to what you're supposed to do If you're watching this video you've bailed out. so that's good, so you can get back to your life. B, You're looking around for information and that's also a good thing. But C, you need to get that information and also most importantly, and really this is the only thing you absolutely have to do immediately after being arrested for a DUI. And that is either request or arrange for someone to request for you that DMV hearing that is mentioned on that pink piece of paper that you probably don't remember reading because it was just such a traumatic event. You need to request that extension, because it makes your temporary license good from ten days to 30 days. Which nearly everybody is going to want, because it allows you to drive longer. Everything else is kind of up in the air. But things you should be worried about. How is this doing to affect my driver's license in the future? Is that going to affect my employment? Am I going to be able to drive, while on a restricted license or during dependency of this case? What is the judge going to do to me? What is the prosecutor going to do to me? Am I going to go to jail? Do I have to take a bunch of classes? How much is this going to cost? I heard it was ten thousand dollars at some point. All of those questions can be answered by a competent DUI attorney. A lot of it is exaggerations and believe me when I say you are not by any stretch of the imagination the first person to go through this stuff. However, because of all the collateral consequences and imaginations that I just mentioned. It is really important to sit down and at least discuss your DUI with someone who knows the law and knows how it affects the DMV.
