Let me know which areas to improve in order to score high on the TOEFL Writing Section. The article and lecture both deal with the gradual increase of the sea level in the last decades. Whilst the author thinks that the increase is a slow and normal process for three specific reasons, the lecturer opposes the author's claims. In his opinion, these reasons do not hold water. First, the author claims that the documented rise in polar ice melting is not the reason for the increase of the sea level because the ice that is already in water displaces the water in the sea. So there is nothing to be worried about when it comes to polar ice melting. In contrast, the lecturer argues that even though polar ice present in the water could not increase the water level, the permafrost which is present on land is the main cause. For instance, Greenland is a country where permafrost can be found and thus the ice on land displaces nothing but instead, it is added to the water in the sea. Additionally, he maintains that the negative effect of polar ice melting concerning the melting of permafrost will not outweigh the disadvantages of ice present on the land. Second, the author mentions that it is still unknown to the world about the fact where the additional water initiates from when it comes to the sudden increment of sea level water. In particular, he adds that even the research team of NASA has been unable to explore the source. However, the lecturer calls this argument into question by saying that it will be an inaccurate claim to point out the unclarity of NASA's fact since it is clearly proven that there is the rapid melting of permafrost and it is swallowing the land on earth. Further, he remarks that it is quite unusual to pinpoint the false statement about the rise of water at sea level as those facts are nothing unnatural or unknown. Finally, the author asserts that the water in the sea and ocean has been fluctuating ever since the continents have emerged from the primordial ocean. In addition to that, in the article, it is mention that the same process will be occurring in the future and enough time will pass for humanity to adjust to this environment. As opposed to the author, the lecturer emphasizes the problems created by human activity. He points out that if humans will be more serious about climate change and global warming, there is a high chance of obtaining a promising green environment in the future. But somehow they are still neglecting the importance of a clean environment and burning fossil fuels to the degree that it is increasing the temperature of the earth rapidly. So the rise in the heat is melting the ice in both water and on land a thousand times faster than before. Therefore, twenty-five percent of the land will be at a loss if such activities initiated by humans take place.
