The Troggs' late singer-songwriter Reg Presley recounted several years ago on BBC1's The One Show how he'd been inspired to write the hit song 'Love Is All Around'. While his little daughter was running around the house one Sunday afternoon, in the background Presley heard songs about love, love, love on a TV show. The programme featured the Salvation Army's pop group The Joystrings. Presley sensed the warm glow of love everywhere around him ... and the rest of course is history. The TV show in question was very probably Hallelujah, produced by ABC Television - the weekend ITV contractor for the North and Midlands. It was shown nationally across the ITV network. Hallelujah was ITV's answer to the BBC's Songs of Praise and was deliberately styled to appeal a younger audience. The show was produced by ground-breaking TV producer Ben Churchill who had already cut his teeth making Hullabaloo (the British show that is, rather than its American namesake). The Joystrings were given the full 20 minutes running time of Hallelujah all to themselves on at least four occasions. This audio clip is the start of an episode of Hallelujah, probably from 1966. The Troggs released Love Is All Around the following year and it reached the top 10 in the UK in October of 1967. The song was later covered by R.E.M. and by Wet Wet Wet. The Troggs hailed from Andover, Hampshire. Originally called The Troglodytes they comprised Reg Presley (lead vocals), Chris Britton (guitar), Pete Staples (bass) and Ronnie Bond (drums). The Joystrings also had a single in the charts in the 1960s - the song was called 'It's An Open Secret'. The main line up of The Joystrings was Joy Webb, Peter Dalziel, Sylvia Gair, Bill Davidson and Wycliffe Noble. The song featured in this video was 'Love That's In My Heart' which featured on the EP 'Joystrings Abroad'. Love Is All Around (Lyrics): I feel it in my fingers, I feel it in my toes, Love that's all around me, And so the feeling grows. It's written on the wind, It's everywhere I go, oh yes it is, So if you really love me Come on and let it show, oh. You know I love you, I always will, My mind's made up by the way that I feel, There's no beginning, there'll be no end, 'Cause on my love you can depend.
