During their forty-year sojourn in the desert, G-d fed the Children of Israel manna from heaven – the ‘bread of angels’ (Psalms 78:25). The Creator Himself was feeding the people, yet they looked at one another and said ‘What is it?’ (16:15). Everything about this amazing Divine phenomenon was miraculous…its taste, how it was gathered, the effect it had on those who ate it…it was all a miracle that would never be repeated again. Or could it be that ‘manna from Heaven’ is still with us today? All the Torah’s eternal secrets of our own livelihood are contained in our Torah portion’s descriptions of the manna.
