Revitalizing Viola Liuzzo Park

The City of Detroit, in partnership with the Viola Liuzzo Park Association, are undertaking a park revitalization project which honors the legacy of civil rights icon, Viola Liuzzo, and benefits the neighborhood. Along with a walking path, fitness equipment and a pickle ball court, the park will have three bioretention gardens to reduce storm water going into the city's combined sewer system and will help minimize local street flooding. Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan, with members of the Liuzzo Park Association and Viola's grandson, led a groundbreaking on July 12, 2016. The City of Detroit has committed nearly $1 Million to the project as part of Mayor Duggan's "40 Neighborhood Parks Initiative." The work is expected to be completed by the end of November 2016.
